The quick answer
- Best picture: PS5 Pro, if you own a good 4K TV.
- Best value: PS5 Slim or Xbox Series X.
- Tight budget: Xbox Series S, ideally the 1 TB model, on a 1080p or 1440p screen.
- Friends matter: play on the same console as your friends if you plan to play online later.
The four options compared
| Console | Built for | Storage | Disc drive |
|---|
| PS5 Pro | 4K TVs, sharpest image | 2 TB | Sold separately |
| PS5 Slim | Everyone, 4K TVs | 1 TB | Disc or Digital edition |
| Xbox Series X | Everyone, 4K TVs | 1 TB (2 TB editions exist) | Yes (digital edition exists) |
| Xbox Series S | 1080p / 1440p screens | 512 GB or 1 TB | No, digital only |
Rockstar has not yet detailed resolution or frame-rate modes per console. All four run the game; the more powerful machines should simply deliver a sharper, steadier picture.
Boxed copy or digital? No disc drive needed
Good news for PS5 Pro, PS5 Digital and Series S owners: the boxed versions of GTA 6 are code-in-box editions, in stores from November 12. The box holds a download code, not a disc, so this game needs no disc drive. Boxed or digital, you download the whole game.
